This was probably the most popular series of ads that I designed. The big debate though was whether we were going to embrace our old school style or not and there were many people for and against the idea. The great thing about it was that it got people talking about us. Mission accomplished!
As far as design, I used an Old School Vision pattern for the background and weathered the typeface. I also took all of the product photos.
Additionally, we wanted a new way to place the logos on the page so we took a photo of the model wearing the classic logo on the back of a sweatshirt and added the new logo as a tattoo on the back of his head.

This was not the best photo we ever got. So I put more emphasis on the design and shoe. The guy in the background provided a good texture filler with some personality and dramatic lighting that I captured on the shoe added some depth and contrast as well.

Duane Peters is a legend in punk rock. It was cool doing ads for him. He was really cool about manipulating photos and such. This photo needed manipulation bad. It was shot at sunset so lighting and color was terrible. I couldn't tell you what I did to it. I just kept experimenting until I liked what I had. I like doing edgy punk style designing.

This ad was challenging because the video captures that we were given to work with were small and there are only so many ways that you can arrange 11 photos without making it look like a grid. The trick was so complicated that we needed all 11 photos to get it across. The photo of Joe was shot in the parking lot at the office. Since it was nice and clear outside, the angle of the shot gives the illusion of being at the beach.

We wanted to keep the design simple for most of the surfing ads as to add more emphasis to the photo and product. I wanted a raw handwritten look for the type so I used my own and scanned it.
